“Important Message” or “Unknown Part” warning from Apple?Updated a year ago
Why am I getting this message?
If your device is displaying an "important message" from Apple regarding any parts (including battery, display, and camera), it means some repair work has been done on your device, especially on the replaced component.
Please note that only an Apple Genius Bar or Authorized Service Provider can replace a component in the latest iPhones without triggering this notification
How long do these messages stay?
These messages do not affect your device's performance and are visible on the lock screen for 4 days and then for 15 more days in Settings. It is essential to note that getting this message doesn't imply that your battery has any issues or is defective - it only means that it was replaced with a new battery that works as efficiently as the original one.
The types of messages you may see depend on the iOS version you are using. For iOS 15.2 and later, you can go to Settings > General > About > PARTS AND SERVICE HISTORY to see which components, if any, have been replaced. You'll see "Unknown Part" if the component installed is not a genuine Apple part, and "Genuine Apple Part" if the replacement was done using genuine Apple parts and processes. It is important to note that these components are functionally identical to the Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) equivalents and won't perform any differently, even if replacements are not performed by Apple.
Our refurbished devices may go through repairs to ensure that the device works as intended. These repairs may use components from other manufacturers or other same-model phones. Please rest assured that our certified technicians only use high-quality parts to repair the device and the functionality of the phone will not be impacted by this.
This may also prompt some messages on the latest Apple devices stating "Unable to verify this iPhone has a genuine...". This message will be visible on the lock screen for 4 days and then for 15 more days in Settings. The only inconvenience is that you won't be able to easily see your battery's health and know when it's time to replace it.
Only Apple Authorized Service Provider can replace a component in the latest iPhones without prompting this message. This doesn't mean that your battery is defective, it only means it was replaced with a new battery (or camera or screen) that works just as efficiently as the original one.
